Resorts in Canggu

Sights in Canggu

  • Pura Batu Mejan (temple). Pura Batu Mejan is an old sea temple on the shore at Echo Beach in Canggu, linked by tradition to the priest Dang Hyang Nirartha and named after a sacred stone kept inside. It stands on a raised wall above the sand, with steps down to the beach and a reef break offshore that draws experienced surfers. Ceremonies are held here often, so keep a respectful distance and never climb on the shrines.
  • Mai Main Playground (play & adventure). Mai Main is a family play park on Jalan Padang Linjong in Canggu, opened in mid-2024. Indoor and outdoor playgrounds, a ball pool, a flying fox, an indoor pool and an outdoor lagoon pool, a small farm where children feed the animals and a mini train fill its grounds, with a café for the parents.

Beaches in Canggu

  • Batu Bolong Beach (beach). Batu Bolong Beach is Canggu's main surf beach, a stretch of dark volcanic sand that shares its name, meaning 'holed rock', with the Pura Batu Bolong sea temple beside it. Its soft, rolling waves suit beginners and longboarders, and surf schools and board rentals line the sand. It is busiest at sunset, and strong currents and a heavy shore break on bigger days make it better for surfing than for swimming.
  • Berawa Beach (beach). Berawa Beach is a stretch of dark gray volcanic sand in Tibubeneng, at the southern end of the Canggu coast, a short walk southeast of Nelayan and Batu Bolong beaches. Waves breaking over reef and sand draw surfers, and cafes and beach clubs such as Finns and Atlas line the shore, where people gather for the sunset. Rip currents and a heavy shore break make it a poor place to swim.
