Pandawa Beach

Beach in Kutuh (South Bali).

Pandawa Beach is a long white-sand beach on the south coast of the Bukit peninsula, about 20 minutes' drive from Nusa Dua. The road down to it is cut through tall limestone cliffs, where statues of Kunti and the five Pandawa brothers from the Mahabharata stand in niches carved into the rock. A reef offshore breaks the swell, so the water is usually calm enough for swimming and kayaking.

Pandawa Beach at a glance

  • For children: Very good (4/5). Park by the sand, with lifeguards, toilets and kayaks; the reef keeps waves moderate, but watch for rocky patches.
  • Swimming: Very good (4/5). Usually calm inside the offshore reef, with a lifeguard between the flags; moderate waves and rocky patches in places.
  • Surfing: Good (3/5), for experienced surfers. A powerful, shallow reef left offshore with a busy lineup in the wet season; dry-season trade winds blow it out.
