Ogoh-Ogoh Bali Museum
Museum in Mengwi (Central Bali).
The Ogoh-Ogoh Bali Museum is a one-hall museum on Jalan Ayodya in Mengwi, by the west side of Taman Ayun Temple and next to the Manusa Yadnya Museum. The Mengwi painter I Ketut Nuada founded it in 2013 to save ogoh-ogoh, the giant bamboo-and-paper demons that village youth groups parade on the eve of Nyepi and usually burn. Some thirty figures, from Bhuta Kala giants to figures on modern social themes, stand close together. A visit takes 15 to 30 minutes.
With children
Children from about four walk among towering, brightly painted demons and giants, close enough to see every fang and claw, and hear about the Nyepi-eve parade they were made for. Some figures are gory and may scare younger children. It is a single room, so pair it with Taman Ayun Temple next door, and keep hands off the fragile figures.
