Petitenget Beach

Beach in Kerobokan (South Bali).

Petitenget Beach is the northern continuation of Seminyak Beach, a wide stretch of sand in front of the Pura Petitenget sea temple, large hotels and beach clubs. It is a little less crowded than the beaches farther south, with room for long walks north toward Batu Belig. Waves and rip currents can be strong and lifeguards are not always on duty, so swim between the flags where they are set and stay out when the sea is rough; temple ceremonies sometimes bring processions down to the sand.

Petitenget Beach at a glance

  • For children: Fair (2/5). Wide, quiet sand to play on, but heavy waves, strong undercurrents and no reliable lifeguards: keep children to the sand.
  • Swimming: Poor (1/5). Heavy waves and strong undercurrents, and lifeguards are not always on duty; often unsafe, with only a dip at the edge on calm days.
  • Surfing: Good (3/5), beginners to experienced. The same sand-bottom break as Seminyak, mostly closeouts with strong currents and no surf schools; Double Six is easier.
  • Snorkeling: None (0/5)
  • Sunset: Excellent (5/5)
  • Scenery: Good (3/5)
  • Peace & quiet: Good (3/5)
  • Food & facilities: Very good (4/5)

  • Sand: Grey sand

Rated from 0 (none) to 5 (excellent), compared with the other beaches on our list.
