Telaga Surya
Nature in Menanga (East Bali).
Telaga Surya is a spring-fed bathing place on the bank of the Telaga Waja river at Menanga, in the hills on the road up to Besakih, about 6 to 7 km north of Sidemen. Its owner, Made Widia, built the pools with young villagers during the Covid-19 pandemic on a former fishing pond. Clear, unchlorinated water from the Surya spring fills a main pool, a shallower children's pool joined to it by a slide and a private pool, among rice terraces, gazebos and a small restaurant.
With children
Children from about three splash in the shallow pool, ride the slide that joins it to the main pool and bob about on hired inner tubes in the clear spring water. Even the children's pool is 70-80 cm deep, so stay in the water with young children; the river runs fast. The spring is sacred: no soap, no swimming during menstruation.
