Taman Narmada
Palace in Narmada (Islands).
Taman Narmada is a royal water garden in Narmada, about 10 km east of Mataram in West Lombok, built in 1727, or by some accounts 1805, as a model of Mount Rinjani and its crater lake, so that the king could hold his rituals without climbing the volcano. Spring water fills its lake, twin pools, a fishing pond and two public pools, one deep and one small and shallow with a slide. Steps climb the terraced lawns to Pura Kalasa, and a flying fox crosses the garden.
With children
Little ones splash in the shallow pool with its slide; older children swim in the big pool, run on the lawns, watch the fish and ride the long flying fox. The pools need their own ticket. The spring water is cold and the big pool deep, with no lifeguard assured, so stay beside non-swimmers. Pack modest swimwear.
