Senggigi Beach
Beach in Lombok (Islands).
Senggigi Beach, a bay of mixed pale and dark sand, lies in the center of Senggigi, the resort strip on Lombok's west coast about half an hour's drive north of Mataram. Its clear water over a gently sloping shore is good for swimming and for snorkeling over nearby coral while the sea is calm, as the waves can pick up, and boards and instructors are on hand for beginners on its small surf. It faces west toward Bali's Mount Agung, a backdrop for the sunset.
Senggigi Beach at a glance
- For children: Good (3/5). Usually a calm bay with food close by, but moored boats, jet skis, plastic on some days and passing currents need a close watch.
- Swimming: Good (3/5). Clear, calm water on most dry-season days; currents pick up at times, and rocks and coral show near the points at low tide.
- Surfing: Fair (2/5), beginners to experienced. A small reef break off the point: lessons for beginners on small days, a hollow, tricky left when a swell comes in.
- Snorkeling: Good (3/5)
- Sunset: Very good (4/5)
- Scenery: Good (3/5)
- Peace & quiet: Good (3/5)
