Museum Sarkofagus
Museum in Bedulu (Central Bali).
Museum Sarkofagus, called Museum Gedong Arca until 2025, is the state archaeology museum in Bedulu, under a kilometre north-east of Goa Gajah and about ten minutes' drive east of Ubud. Opened in 1974, it sets out 33 stone sarcophagi from across Bali in open pavilions, many shaped like turtles and carved with goggle-eyed faces, and its small halls hold stone tools, bronze, beads, burial jars and Chinese ceramics.
With children
Children of four and up hunt among the turtle-shaped stone coffins for carved faces with goggle eyes and stuck-out tongues; now and then the museum runs colouring and games for them. Open on weekdays only, and free. It is small, so pair it with Goa Gajah; keep children off the sarcophagi and ask whether a children's activity is on.
