Nyepi (Day of Silence, Saka 1949)

Nyepi, the Balinese Saka New Year, is a day of silence: from 06:00 to 06:00 the next day no one may go out, work, or use lights or noise. Ngurah Rai airport closes and visitors must stay inside their hotels. It is a national public holiday.
Many Balinese ceremonies follow local calendars; check dates with the organisers before you travel.
