Bias Tugel Beach

Beach in Padangbai (East Bali).

Bias Tugel is a short cove of white sand between rocky, wooded headlands just south of the ferry port at Padangbai, on the open coast outside the bay, with clear water, coral close to shore and a few simple warungs. From the car park on the hill road above, it is about a 10-minute walk down steps and a steep, rocky path, and a track over the hill from the harbor entrance also leads there. Waves get bigger at high tide and currents can be strong, so swim and snorkel at low or mid tide.

Bias Tugel Beach at a glance

  • For children: Good (3/5). Soft sand and warungs, but the path down is steep and rocky, and high tide brings a punchy shore break.
  • Swimming: Good (3/5). Calm and clear at low to mid tide; at high tide the waves grow, and currents run further out.
  • Surfing: Poor (1/5). Not a surf spot: rideable waves come only at times and close out fast on a big swell.
  • Snorkeling: Good (3/5)
  • Sunset: Poor (1/5)
  • Scenery: Very good (4/5)
  • Peace & quiet: Very good (4/5)
  • Food & facilities: Good (3/5)
  • Easy to reach: Good (3/5)
  • Sand: White sand

Rated from 0 (none) to 5 (excellent), compared with the other beaches on our list.
